If you like Charlie XCX, you’ll love SALVATION by Rebecca Black.
For those who don’t remember, Rebecca Black went viral as a child in 2011 with Friday, instantly declared the most annoying song ever released. What followed was a global bullying campaign that could have easily crushed any child. Where do you go when your starting point is worldwide embarassment? This is high-energy, high-camp, high-drama hyper-pop-meets-rave which is so unapologetic, so cheeky, so self-aware, and so much fun, that it’s impossible not to get swept up in it, balancing over-the-top, sugary bubblegum-pop with aggressive, stomping rave beats.
Sugar Water Cyanide alternates between ditzy Barbie-core and pounding kick drums, whilst TRUST! pairs pulsating techno energy with soaring theatrical vocals. Clocking in at just 21 minutes, the album is the best party record of the year so far. Rebecca Black has embraced the absurdity of her own legacy and flipped it into something spectacularly entertaining.
